They are very easy to grow & easy to maintain. Seeds need min 20°C to germinate
A single Angled luffa can grows up to 60cm and weighs 1.5kg each! The photo you are viewing is a snapshot from the vine.
Best time to sow them after frost. Soak the seeds in water for a few hours before planting and sow them in a sunny, well-drained position. Germinates between 2-3 weeks.
They are very good eating!
Luffa is a genus of tropical and subtropical vines classified in the cucumber family. They are eaten as a vegetable but must be harvested at a young stage to be edible. They are very popular vegetable in China and southeast Asia. They are also called Chinese Okra in Canada. They have a very good medicinal value. Luffa juice is used as a natural remedy for jaundice. The juice is obtained by pounding the bitter luffa and squeezing it through a cloth. Bitter luffa seeds and dry crusts are also available and can be used for the same purpose.
