Luffa is a genus of tropical and subtropical vines classified in the cucumber family. They are eaten as a vegetable but must be harvested at a young stage to be edible. They are very popular vegetable in China and southeast Asia. They are also called Chinese Okra in Canada. They have a very good medicinal value. Luffa juice is used as a natural remedy for jaundice. The juice is obtained by pounding the bitter luffa and squeezing it through a cloth. Bitter luffa seeds and dry crusts are also available and can be used for the same purpose.
